Navigating the Darkness While whales and bats may seem worlds apart, they share an intriguing commonality – the use of echolocation. Both species rely on sound rather than sight to navigate their surroundings, but their methods differ significantly. Bats emit ultrasound frequencies through their mouths or noses, listening for echoes to detect their surroundings with incredible precision. Whales, on the other hand, generate sound by pushing air through their nasal cavities and use their lower jaw and ears to pick up reflections of these sounds in the water.
