Meganeura, ancient carnivorous dragonflies, were awe-inspiring creatures that inhabited the Earth during the Carboniferous Period. These colossal insects reached sizes comparable to birds and possessed a ferocious appetite for prey. They hunted insects, invertebrates, and occasionally small amphibians, relying on their large size and agile flight capabilities.
Dragonflies back in the Carboniferous era were able to grow really big and strong because there was a lot of oxygen in the air. But if those super-sized dragonflies were around today, it would cause problems for the environment. They would be too big and fierce, and their hunting habits would throw off the delicate balance of our ecosystems.
